If you're anything like me, when certain events take place, your day goes smoother than if those things don't happen. The difference is so obvious, that I try to go out of my way to make sure those things happen.
For me, the road to a smooth start begins with these things.
**A Clean House--Before I go to bed each night, I make sure the toys are picked up, the dishes are done, the couch cushions are straight and miscellaneous items put where they belong. I cannot stand getting up to a messy house.
**A Good Breakfast--It's amazing how much better things go when I have a decent meal in my stomach. My thyroid medication needs to be taken on an empty stomach, so there are many days when I don't get around to actually eating until late morning, when I'm starving. And if we're busy or in a rush, that meal tends to be something less healthy or less filling. A couple of weeks ago, I spent some time after the kids went to bed making a huge pile of Breakfast Wraps. They are different each time I make them, depending on what ingredients we have or what I feel like eating. This time, I added chopped onions, spinach, and a small amount of shredded cheddar, wrapped them in whole wheat tortillas, and froze them. To eat, thaw in the refrigerator overnight, then wrap in a damp paper towel and microwave for 90 seconds. These can also be eaten standing up. I feel much better when I have a chance to eat a good breakfast.
**A Complete To-Do List--Having my day planned ahead of time, so I know what to expect, is a huge help. I hate not having my list prepared in advance, then sitting down to do it and realizing that I have too many things that must get done and not enough time to do them in.
**A Shower Before The Kids Get Up--This is a huge one. I'm usually too tired to get out of bed until I absolutely have to, but on the days when I can, and am showered and dressed before the kids get up, I'm more relaxed, less rushed, and happier.
What about you? What needs to happen in your house for your day to start well?

I always have the house clean before I got to bed and put out everything we need for the morning. running clothes, work clothes, school clothes. Lunches are made, school bags by the door. And then, the only missing ingredient is for Jack Jack to manage not to have a melt down about something. And that seems to be random and uncontrollable, despite my best efforts.
A good night's sleep, for me is paramount.
We don't have too much going on right now and our routines are pretty well set. I have a feeling I will have to be more organized when T starts school and needs her hair done before she leaves though.
Off topic--did you hear that Bratz lost a huge lawsuit and the dolls will no longer be made? !!!
I am SO with you on the first 3!!! unfortunately, I can NOT get myself out of bed early enough to shower before the kiddos...I'm a night owl!
Let's see, a good day starts for me....
*Getting up early for work without being tired and getting out of the house early
*No traffic!
*A good latte (which I rarely buy b/c I am cheap!)
*My pants fitting well and not feeling fat! :)
There are some things that I want to change - as in habits - so I am making a chart like I use to make for my kids - so I don't get into bed at night and say that I forgot to do them - its a list but with check off boxes : ) I'm curious to see if it works - especially at my age!!! and I love getting up in the morning to a neat - straightened up home - don't always have it - but I still love it!
