I Got Nuthin'

It might be August and HOT HOT HOT, but the germs inside are flourishing and we've got them.

Maureen was sick last week. My husband stayed home from work on Tuesday and then was up half the night coughing. I spent Wednesday wandering around at work with an ice cold can of Diet Coke pressed to my face and wondering if squirting some lidocaine up my nose would give me some temporary relief from the horrible sinus pressure.

The kids were with my MIL and were really good, and I even got to lay down for an hour when I got home before getting up to cook dinner. And both kids ate everything I made. In fact, Johnny announced to his grandfather, "Pop Pop, if I eat my dinner, you get to take me to the ice cream store!" Don't worry, he wasn't being presumptuous, Grandmom had told him that earlier in the day. And when they went to the ice cream store, I piled all the dishes in the sink and crawled into bed. My husband bathed the kids and put them to bed, PLUS did all the dishes and picked up the toys. And then he stayed up half the night coughing.

Today, my sinuses still hurt and one of my eyes is looking sort of funky, so I'm wearing my glasses and wondering if I could convince Johnny to take a nap.

So that is why I have nothing creative to post. And no pictures. Check back tomorrow.

I'll leave you with some trivia and kid-isms:

**To my great disgust, Maureen LOVES hot dogs. I bought some for Johnny on Monday as a treat, and made her one for lunch. She inhaled it, then pointed to the package on the counter and asked for another. Yesterday, Grandmom fed them hot dogs again and couldn't cut them up fast enough for her. She kept demanding, "Hot DOG! Hot DOG!" *retch*

**Stuck in the house with bored kids? Here's a fun thing to do...put in your wedding video. John put ours on while I was resting on Tuesday and both kids loved it. Johnny kept telling me how he watched "the funny movie with mommy in the big dress." Plus, it was a riot to see how much John's cousins have grown in the past 6 years.

**My parents are on vacation, so they dropped off their dog with us this morning. Jameson took one look, puffed up to three times his size, then hissed and ran off. Rudy has been sitting by the front door for the past 2 hours, waiting for his parents to come rescue him. And Jameson is hiding under Johnny's bed. Plus, Rudy won't stop drooling on my floor. And I think he just burped.

**After Johnny learned a new word from Pop Pop, we had to have a discussion about good words and bad words. Yesterday, Pop Pop got a lecture. "Pop Pop, when you break things, you have to say shoot! You can't say damn. Damn is a bad word. If you say damn, Pop Pop, you have to go to time out. Say shoot instead." Maureen was walking around and I heard her repeat, "Shoot!"

**We're going to the beach in September, and I don't know if I'll have Internet access. I'm sure I can find a Starbucks or something with WiFi, but the prospect of writing and scheduling posts while we are gone is a bit overwhelming. So if anyone is interested in guest blogging, please send me an email at greatwallsofbaltimore AT yahoo DOT com.

**Speaking of September, I heard that September 19th is International Talk Like A Pirate Day. And I totally can't wait to walk around saying, "Arrrrrr..I'd like my groceries in plastic bags, matey!" and "Arrrr! Eat your lunch or you'll be walking the plank, you landlubber!" And I thought it might be fun to have a party with pirate themed snacks and "rum" (white grape juice) and Pin The Sail On The Pirate Ship and stuff. Except that the 19th is a weekday and most of my mom friends work full time. And am I crazy to try and plan a birthday party, vacation AND the first week of preschool all within three weeks time?

**The Olympics Opening Ceremonies are on Friday. Woot! Can't wait.

**John gave those two club-sized summer squash away, so I am not making the Breaded Summer Squash for dinner. Yay! Except now I need to alter my grocery list and find a fifth meal to fill in the hole.

**Are you following me on Twitter? And if not, why not?

I'll hopefully be back tomorrow with pictures of our loaner dog. (Who I keep forgetting needs to be walked. It's easy to forget about things like that when you normally just have a cat.)

Sorry you're feeling so yucky! Sinus/allergy junk can be so irritating. I'm sure you've heard of a Neti Pot but if you haven't...google it and see what you think. I have one and swear by it.

When my kids watch our wedding video or look at pics they constantly ask where they were at. Do you know how hard it is to explain to them that they simply did not exist then? ha! I'm sure you do...you're a Mom! LOL!

"I think he just burped." Hilarious, just the laugh I needed after a frustrating day.

I hope you are feeling better soon, get rest if you can and take it easy!!!

As you can imagine, TLAP day is a big deal at our house.

OH, I just learned SO much from this post. Had no idea about TLAP day! None. Love the idea of popping in the wedding video. I'll have to give that a try.

Glad I'm not the only mom with a kid that loves hot dogs. They'd eat them morning, noon and night.

My oldest says dam all the time. Not damn, but dam. It's a regular part of his vocabulary and he's gonna be really confused the day I have to tell him it's a bad word when used a different way. I mean seriously, who came up with that?!

Anyway, hope you're feeling better now. Those sinuses can really put a damper on a day or two or three...

have a great weekend!
