Did I Say That?

One day last week, Johnny decided he wanted to "help" me cook dinner. What he really meant was make a mess. Maureen needed a diaper change, and when I came back, he had gotten into my spices and dumped a whole bunch into my mortar and was grinding them together with the pestle.

I took both away from him and dumped the mishmash into the sink.

He protested at the unfairness of it all. "Mom, you can't do that!"

I replied, "I'm the Mom. I can do whatever I want."

Immediately, I thought, "Did I really just say that?"

Do you ever catch yourself saying things that might have come straight from your own mother's mouth?

Are you kidding? I don't think I make it even a couple of hours without saying one of my mother's quotes. And the funny thing is when my sister was out here, she used the same lines. I think it is ground into our heads. My kids are going to say "don't run in the house" and "please take those back in the playroom" when they get older.

I'm alwasy saying stuff like that... my favorite is when they ask me "Why" when I tell them to do something and my response is, "Because I'm the Mommy and I said so!" I wanna stab my eys out sometimes, but hey, whatcha gonna do... it happens!

Are you kidding? The whole reason I had kids was to toture them with all those obnoxious things my parents used to say like "because I said so" and "do as I say, not as I do" and my personal fave "you won't understand until you have kids of your own". Ok, so that's not really WHY I had kids, but it is one of the perks.
