Before I had kids of my own, I quite often had trouble understanding other people's children when they talked. More than once, while babysitting, I had to enlist the help of an older sibling to interpret what the toddler I was watching was trying to tell me.
I've never really hard a hard time understanding my own kids though, and I'm not exactly sure why. It's probably because I spend so much time with them and see the context in which they learn things, and maybe it's because I'm more in tune to the needs of little people. Whatever it is, I'm thankful because trying to decode mumbo jumbo all day could get frustrating.
Maureen is quite a little talker, and I know that when she tells me "mo milk?" she means "more milk." Or when I'm holding her and she says, "Wa walk?" she means "want to walk." "Dank Do" means "thank you" and "See bump" means "see me jump." And "Jameson! Mrow!!!!" means just that.
She's picking up names quickly too. Mommy, Daddy, Jameson and Pop Pop are all very clear. Busia, which is pronounced "Boo-sha" comes out so that it rhymes with "pushy." "Bushy."
She calls her brother Nonny, which is cute because that is the same way Johnny referred to himself for awhile, and my mother-in-law says it's what my husband called himself for a time.
Anyway, today we hit a new milestone. She has a name for herself. Up until yesterday, if she saw a picture of herself or her reflection, she'd point and say, "Baby!" Then she would blow herself kisses. (Or as she says, "disses.")
We were looking at the pictures I took outside and she pointed to herself and said, "May May!" I asked, "Is that a baby?" and she shook her head and said, "No! May May!"
May May and Nonny, the new superhero team.
Also, I turned her carseat around last night, so today will be her first day facing forward.
When did my baby get to be so big?

I still can't understand my sister's kids and I think it irritates her but to me it's just gibberish. I try to "get it" but it doesn't work very well
I mostly understand my youngest, but when I don't, her older sister ALWAYS lets me know what she said. I am very surpised at how fluent she is in 'Cait'enese.
Sometimes, my head hurts from concentrating on what she says throughout the day. She talks A LOT and it takes my full attention to keep up with her. Just like talkin in a foreign language you have only known for a few years.
