Growing up, I was always glad to have a birthday at the end of August, because it meant I didn't have to go to school on my birthday. Looking at it from a different perspective, I'm sure my mom was thrilled to be nine months pregnant in August.
No baby yet, so the potato salad made it to our party. He will get here when he gets here, but I'm sort of hoping my sister-in-law doesn't deliver on Tuesday.
What's wrong with Tuesday, you say?
Nothing, really, but it's Tax Day, and I can only imagine the idiotic comments people will have if my brother and his wife have their baby on April 15th.
Johnny was due on September 2nd, and a large number of people took pleasure in telling me that if I went a few days late, I might have him on Labor Day. Ha Ha. I didn't care too much when he came, as long as it was soon, but leading up to his birth, I was really hoping he wouldn't be born on September 11, because I didn't want to associate the day of his birth with a tragic day in American history. At some point, his birthday might fall on Labor Day.
Maureen was a week early, and I was hoping she wouldn't come on Thanksgiving Day, because I wanted my turkey and mashed potatoes. She came the day before, so I missed dinner anyway. And her first birthday fell on Thanksgiving Day.
If you feel the earth shaking, it's just me. My sister-in-law has requested a Baby Dance.
In the meantime, do your kids' birthdays fall on any holidays?

my oldest is July 15, no holiday to speak of and my little one was on June 22, which is one of the two longest days of the year. Since she was born in Alaska, it is kind of a holiday.
My mom was born on Memorial Day, My sister on Washington's birthday, and I was lucky enough to be born on Elvis's birthday.
The Toad missed Elvis' birthday by a mere 12 hours....I laughed at first and still sometimes tell people that "Elvis" was my reserve name for him. They usually think I'm serious.
My Sweetie's birthday is Epiphany.
The Howler was born on Monday in Holy week, and so far, hasn't hit Easter (although I already know that it will--about 20 years from now). This year, it was Tuesday after Easter, and deciding when to have her party with her school friends was a trial. I also told people (knowing that in 2002 by due date was barely a week before Easter) that we would name her "Bunny"--with our last name, it even gives her the giggles.
Also, with the Howler, I had false labor the Saturday before she was born--we spent the night in the hospital, and the Doc told me that "a week from Monday, you no longer get to wait and see when she comes". So I told him that Monday would be fine--it would be April Fool's Day. When the nurse commented "oh, no. You don't want your baby born that day!" I told her that she didn't know the half of it! The Howler came that Monday, though, and missed MY chosen date by a week!
I know people say that it takes away from a child's birthday to be born on/too near a holiday, but I just don't think so--if parents make the effort to keep the child's birthday special, having a holiday share it with them, even sometimes, makes the holiday more special!
My son's birthday is on a major state holiday. It is bigger than the 4th of July around here. It's extremely annoying because if he wants to have a birthday party, there are always tons of conflicts in the community and its hard to get a turn out to a birthday party on that day.
It was also the day we moved into this house, and it was really hard to find people from church to help us move because they were all out at the BBQ's & fireworks.
My uncle is a CPA, and his son was born on tax day.
I was born the day after New Years, exactly a week after Christmas...I loveeeeee my birthday!!! But to even things out I celebrate a mid year birthday on June 2nd, so I buy myself presents and Ken takes me out to eat...albeit a little begrudgingly.
My birthday falls on Thanksgiving every few years. It is also the day JFK was assassinated (though quite a few years later). My son was due on Memorial Day, but thankfully he came a week early. Its kind of a pain to have a birthday on a holiday. I've spent quite a few birthday's blowing the candles out on a pumpkin pie.
Daughter was born at 1:06 a.m on January 2nd was almost born on New Year's Day (which was also my grandmother's Birthday).
My Dad was born on St Patrick's Day.
I have a cousin who was born on Christmas.
I have a friend whose daughter was born on February 29th.

I was born on November 23, which falls on Thanksgiving every few years. As I grew older, it made me more and more miserable, because there's nothing open on Thanksgiving, which means that I can't celebrate my birthday until after my birthday. Not to mention the people who think its cute to put birthday candles on pumpkin pie (its totally not). Luckily, the baby is due August 6th, and there's no major holidays in the vicinity, unless I'm a month early, or nearly a month late...
