Please Note: Skateboarding At The Inner Harbor Is Prohibited!

This video is a bit long (over three minutes), but I'm sure if you watch it, you'll be as appalled as I am.

Besides the fact that a grown man has no business slamming a fourteen year old kid to the ground when his crime was calling the guy "dude," this seems like an obvious waste of manpower! This city has a terrible murder rate and people are smoking crack at the playground I take my kids to, but this clown wants to crack down on a skateboarding kid?

Give me a break. I don't even know what else to say.

I don't find this funny at all. Please tell me that the fact that this officer totally lost his cool and manhandled this boy--along with the threat (I'm 40 years old and if an officer who had already thrown me to the ground told me that "someone is gonna kill you", I'd take it to mean HE may kill me)--just screams that this guy should NOT be policing ANYONE anywhere.

If that were my child, I'd be screaming bloody murder--and this guy would be riding a desk, or out of a job.

He is on admin leave with pay. The incident happened over the summer and nothing much happened with the boy's family complained. Then someone posted the video and all hell broke loose. So this jack arse really needs to be fired.

If this were my child, I would seriously be considering a lawsuit.

What a pompous arse. He better be glad it's not my child. Threatening him with death, telling him to speak to his parents with disrespect. And cops wonder why so many people have lost ALL respect for LEO's.

This cops behavior is way out of line however what irritates me about this story is that no one is saying a word about this kid's behavior. He knew he wasn't supposed to be riding his skateboard there and did it anyway and, in addition to that, he was completely disrespectful when he got caught. None of his friends mouthed off that way. When I was small my parents drilled it into us that all adults and anyone in a position of authority was to be respected. I would never even dream of calling an officer dude and if I had made the mistake the first time I certainly would have stopped when I saw how irritated he was getting. There is no defending the officers actions, they are rediculous, but the kid was out of line too. It says something about the way we're raising kids today that even a 14 year of kid has no respect for authority. No wonder the city has such high crime rates, the kids aren't afraid of the cops or their parents.

Holy Cow! Is that for real? Unbelievable.

Honestly? I didn't think the kid was being disrespectful. He's not completely innocent, because he was skateboarding at the harbor and it's not allowed. But people break minor laws all the time. I jaywalked the other day. Should I be thrown to the ground and screamed at for it? How about the dog owner who didn't pick up after his pet?

The word 'dude' is part of my vocabularly too, and when I watch the video, I don't see a boy who is purposely trying to agitate the officer or be disrespectful. I see a scared kid who is being unfairly treated.

This city has major problems and incidents like these don't help.

Am I supposed to be scared of the police? Because I'm not. They're people. just like me, and that badge doesn't make them better. That brings to mind the difference between respect and manners, but that's another post.

I'm with K on the kid being disrespectful. "dude" is JUST a word--now, if the kid had been swearing or something, then I'd say, "yeah, he was disrespectful"

I use lots of words that can be disrespectful, but it's all in how it's said--the kid was calling him "dude" because, whether we oldsters like it or not, "dude" is the new "sir"

Chicken Legs police man needs to get counselling for his anger and paranoia. Period.
