Weighty Matters

Yesterday, I took Maureen to see her doctor for a weight check. She is doing well. At 17 pounds 13 ounces, she's still not on the growth chart for her age, but she gained a pound since her last visit, and is otherwise healthy. When the doctor asked what we've been doing differently, I told her, "Stuffing food down her throat." When Safeway has vanilla Instant Breakfast in stock, she gets that in her milk, I've been putting Smart Balance on her veggies, and pushing high calorie foods like cheese and avocado and eggs.

She's a great eater, will try just about anything, and has a wide repertoire of foods that she'll eat at any time, like green beans or yogurt. I have to laugh at some meals because the volume of food she eats is pretty close to what Johnny eats, and sometimes she eats plenty more than he does. He has also gained a little, weighing in at 29 1/2 pounds with his shoes on.

While we waited in the exam room, Johnny spotted the boxes of exam gloves on the wall and said, "I see those purple gloves!" I told him, "Yes, but those belong to the doctor and you can't touch them." He nodded knowingly and said, "When I get to be Doctor Boy, I can touch those gloves." So maybe I have a burgeoning doctor on my hands. How much does med school cost these days?
