This morning, we popped over to Safeway to pick up some bread to go with tonight's dinner. When we walked past the seasonal aisle, I was amazed to see that the Christmas stuff had already been cut down to one tiny display and plastered with mark down stickers. In it's place was...Valentine's Day stuff! You know, that holiday in mid-February.
That's crazy. Most people still have their trees up, and all the wrapping paper and packaging material has yet to be picked up by the trash guys.
What's the hurry? How about a breather? Yeah, yeah...retail blah blah blah money blah blah blah marketing blah blah blah profits.
When I was a kid, the months between January and December seemed to stretch on and on, but now it seems like I never have enough hours in the day to get everything done. Ohmigod, only 362 shopping days until Christmas! Better get crackin'!

I just ordered stuff for Trent's birthday party (2/13) because last year I learned way too late that all of the new party stuff comes out on or about 2/14 and the stores stop reordering the "old" designs. So I did it to make sure I get it.
Have you picked up your St Patrick's Day stuff yet? :)
I've learned the hard way that if you want something specific for a certain date, you better order it as soon as you think of it. Stores are cutting back on what they carry, special ordering more, and more often than not, what you need is back ordered by the manufacturer who doesn't want to risk unsold merchandise. But for the stuff you don't need, like Valentine's Day streamers, you can get them before Christmas if you want, with no special order.
Consumerism is getting obnoxious.
I was dismayed to see all the valentine's day stuff out in Target today. I couldn't help thinking we haven't even hit the new year yet! Seriously, Valentine's isn't even a real holiday, why don't they just put out the Easter stuff now and be done with it. Or better yet, just leave the Christmas stuff because we'll be buying that again in just 9 short months!
