This Is What Happens When You Let A Three Year Old Help Decorate The Tree

Today, while Maureen napped, Johnny and I made pumpernickel bread (he calls it chocolate bread, because it's brown, which is not too far off the mark because the recipe has cocoa in it) and put the ornaments on the tree.

Since he's short and on the clumsy side, I put all the breakable ornaments on the top half of the tree, well out of the reach of "The Paw" and Johnny put the non-breakables on the lower half.

Except they mostly ended up on the same branch.

I'm leaving it for John to see, and then will probably distribute them a little more once Johnny has gone to bed.

Trent takes down our decorations on the lower branches on almost a daily basis. He tries to put them back on but so far, the coordination isnt really there.

Aw! Well, at least you let him help! Some people won't let their kiddos touch the tree.

I usually put my breakable near the top too. Gabe doesn't do quite that bad, but we do get a lot of ornaments all clumped together, and he lokes to take them off and play with them, then put them back on, especially his special ornaments and Daddy's Army guy ornaments.

EXACTLY what happened to us! On 2 of our trees! So much fun, though!

We got a bunch of jingle bells at target to hang on the tree. I think it was 15 for $5. Collin helped us hang them low on the tree that way when he goes to play with the tree we at least have some kind of warning. We put our good ornaments up high too so they don't break and stuff we don't mind him playing with near the bottom. Its so neat to watch little ones try to decorate the tree! Even the baby is fascinated by it. Your tree looks beautiful!
