My daughter is ten months old and learning how to feed herself. She does well with firm or dry foods, like Cheerios, but has a harder time with slippery foods like bananas.
To help her grasp mushy foods easier, I cut a large chunk of the banana or other food, then spear it with a Gerber Lil' Dipper.
She can hold the handle and eat pieces off the banana chunk without getting frustrated, and I don't have to clean mashed food off her hands and highchair.

Good tip! My lil one is also ten months old.
Another tip I've heard (and haven't tried), is rolling the soft food in graham cracker crumbs to make picking up easier. But I'll have to get some gerber lil' dippers!
