Destructo Strikes Again

Every parent has probably had a moment when your child does something that makes your heart leap into your throat because you realize how bad it could have been.

The other day, Johnny climbed on top of the changing table, threw the pad on the floor, and then jumped up and down. Next thing I know, I heard this splintering crash and he started yelling for me to come get his foot out. His foot had gone right through the piece of wood and his leg was stuck.

I managed to get him out without any bloodshed, and it looks like we'll be able to replace the broken piece. But there were pretty big jagged pieces of wood and all I could think was, "ohmigod, femoral artery!"

He knows he isn't allowed to climb on the table, but he always manages to do stuff like this when I am in the middle of something.

He also hasn't grasped the idea that new things cost money, because he told his father, "I broke the changing table! We have to get a new one at the store!"

I'll take it out of his allowance.
