Raving Maniacs

At 11 AM today, it was 99 degrees in the city. Real temperature. I don't want to know what the heat index was. I think too hot should suffice.

Maureen should be waking up from her nap soon, and I'm frantically searching for things to do until John gets home. I was going to go shopping, but the idea of lugging Maureen back and forth between the stores and the van is unbearable. Johnny watched a movie earlier, so TV is out. I guess we could go to the wading pool, but there's always the prospect of getting over there and finding it empty. I drove by there on Friday, another hot day, and the benches were full of kids in swimsuits, but no pool attendants. I guess it was too hot for them to come to work.

Summer is the worst! I don't care for frigid temperatures much either, but in the most desperate times, we can usually bundle up in lots of layers and get outside at least for a little while, and we can always run around to work up some warmth. Today is so hot, I think all it's good for is lying in the shade sipping something cold and preferably fruity.

If this heat wave doesn't break soon, I think we'll all be raving maniacs...

It's definately hot, but when Paul called from Kuwait today it was 147 degrees!!! And they must wear all thier gear EVERY time they leave their tent...even to go to the bathroom! I think we're the lucky ones. I can stand the heat if he can.

I took Nick for a walk at 9 this morning and it was already 90some degrees! I have the advantage of sending Collin to daycare and just spending the day with Nick, I don't know what I'd do if they were both home all day. I'm too nervous to take them both to the pool by myself. I can't wait until its back in the 70s again!
