Potty Pride

I am so glad I didn't push Johnny to use the potty before he was ready. It's been much easier to just occasionally suggest the potty and let him do his own thing.

It seems to have clicked overnight. He wore underwear all day yesterday and the only accident he had involved poop. He was so upset about it too, so we'll see what happens today. He lets me know when he needs to go, and can hold it until he gets to the potty. We're working on the aim thing, but for now I just swab the floor and the toddler potty with rubbing alcohol when he is finished. This morning, he got up and went into the bathroom first thing and used the potty. All on his own. I was downstairs with Maureen. The same crumpled yet clean diaper has been sitting on the changing table for two days now. He's worn it to bed two nights in a row and stayed dry two nights in a row. The tabs are starting to not hold though, so I think he'll need a fresh one tonight. Or maybe even a rubber sheet and no diaper!

The only downside, if there is one, is that he is so proud of himself that he wants to share his news with everyone. Last night, John's Aunt Cathy came over and took Johnny for a walk while John and I took Maureen and ate out for dinner. Maureen was super wiggly and tried to eat my menu, then started to fuss, so I ended up taking her outside while John finished eating and paid the bill. Also, I ordered the nachos, from the appetizer menu, and it was enormous!

Anyway, when he came back from his walk, Johnny used the potty, then said, "Do you want to show Aunt Cathy your yellow pee?" Aunt Cathy respectfully declined.

But things are going well, and I am very proud of my big boy!

As a side note, it is pouring rain outside and Johnny just came up to me and said, "It's really raining outside. Can we take a shower in the rain?"

Shame on Aunt Cathy not going to look at Johnny's offerings! But, good for him on making the decision himself...I bet he (and you) are terribly proud!
